It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for the Premier League to roll back around, but the punters in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing ahead of the season start this weekend!

And one team who will really be in the spotlight will be Spurs, after they limped over the finish line last season.

For a long time they were considered as Leicester City’s biggest Premier League title rivals but a spluttering end to the season saw them limp into third place, much to the delight of the Arsenal supporter on the other side of the City.

But this season will be a new start for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who will hope that with their summer additions, they can challenge again and do a better job than last year.

So with that in mind, here’s the Spurs XI that could hammer Everton on the opening weekend of the Premier League season!

GK: Hugo Lloris

Perhaps one of the easier picks in this team, Hugo Lloris will keep his place in the Spurs side all season bar injuries or suspension.

Michel Vorm is a good back up, but Lloris offers that extra bit of quality between the sticks.

RB: Kyle Walker

Another pretty standard choice here- Kyle Walker is Spurs’ best option at full-back over Kieron Trippier.

He was also one of England’s better players in their disappointing Euro 2016 campaign but expect the Englishman to impress again this season.

CB: Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld was one of the Premier League’s most consistent centre-backs last season and there is no reason why he won’t slot back in the Spurs defence against Everton.

He’s quick, calm and composed and as we saw last season, he came up big on a number of occasions for Pochettino’s men.

CB: Kevin Wimmer

Although he won’t be first-choice this season, expect Kevin Wimmer to start the game against Everton in Jan Vertonghen’s continued absence.

Whilst he’s not as assured as the Belgian international he’s a confident young man and went out to the Euros with Austria and looked decent in an under-performing side.

LB: Danny Rose

Another Englishman who did well at the Euro’s despite a difficult campaign on the whole, Danny Rose looks set to play most of Spurs’ games at left-back this season.

He’s made the position his own over the past couple of years and he will be a pretty sound choice as the season progresses.

CDM: Eric Dier

One of England’s brightest young sparks, Eric Dier has a massive season ahead. He looked excellent during the majority of the last campaign and showed Spurs fans why the club gambled on bringing him in from Portugal.

Easily one of the best players in this position in the league, and expect him to control the game from the middle of the park.

CDM: Dele Alli

Dele Alli is another name who you just expect to see in the Spurs line-up these days. He’s tenacious, aggressive and competitive and he really gives Spurs some much needed crunch in the middle of the park.

He was one of, if not the stand-out player in the side last season and expect him to go on and impress this time out too.

RM/RW: Erik Lamela

A player that has really blossomed since Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at the club and he scored a cracking 25-yard effort as Spurs humbled Inter Milan 6-1 in a pre-season game last week.

He offers the team skill, trickery and pace going forward and you expect him to keep on getting better now he seems settled and happy.

CAM/CF: Vincent Janssen

A slight risk to have the two big men playing in the same side together but Janssen looks worthy of a start after grabbing a good goal in the game against Inter Milan.

The former AZ man has lots to prove after a big move to England this summer, but expect him to really compete with Harry Kane for the role as top dog at White Hart Lane.

LM/LW: Christian Eriksen

Another definite to play in the game against the Toffees, Christian Eriksen, much like Lamela, really showed his quality last season.

He’s wicked from dead-balls, has fantastic vision and really supporters the side going down the flank. If Spurs play well, you normally attribute some of their strengths to this man.

ST: Harry Kane

Besides from the goalkeeper, Harry Kane is perhaps the most obvious pick in this side. 28 goals really helped his side to compete at the top of the table and he was arguably the best English striker in the world last season.

Expect him to pick up where he left off, scoring goals and endearing himself to the White Hart Lane faithful.
