The Football Transfer Tavern is now abuzz with excitement in the build up to the start of the new Premier League season. One group of Arsenal fans are feverishly discussing the prospects of their side for the coming campaign and success in one particular field is what they are all crying out for.

Arsene Wenger has won almost everything with Arsenal, but one trophy has eluded him. The Champions League has forever remained out of reach for the veteran Frenchman, and he knows that to really cement his legacy; he needs to capture the trophy with the big ears.

Much has been made over his spell without trophies whilst in charge of Arsenal, but with back-to-back FA cup wins behind him, he will no doubt look to kick on next season and make a move in the Champions League.

A second place has ensured a good group seeding, meaning that the North London side are likely to make it out of the group stages.

A few new additions could make all the difference for this Arsenal side, and could really propel them to that elusive Champions League trophy next year.

With that in mind our Gunners supporting regulars have been discussing one thing and one thing only all night, the eleven players that would give them a shot at top trophy in Europe, and here is what they came up with…

GK – Petr Cech

No surprises here.

After being brought in from Chelsea last year, Petr Cech went on to cement his place in the first-team last season, and whilst he is getting on in a tad, he is showing no signs of slowing down.

The impending return of Wojciech Szczesny will likely force discussions into the Arsenal goalkeeping situation; but there is no doubting who will end up on top.

Defenders – Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny, Kalidou Koulibaly, Nacho Monreal

The most important transfer business that Arsenal can do this summer is to hold on to Hector Bellerin. Reports have linked the Arsenal right back with a move to Barcelona this summer; but it is essential that they hold on to the youngster.

His electric pace down the right wing, combined with his defensive prowess, have ensured that he made the right back spot his own, and it needs to stay that way for the years to come.

Another easy one at left back, with Nacho Monreal an obvious choice after his resurgence last season.

Lauren Koscielny will continue to anchor that defence, offering consistent defensive stability and awareness.

The only major change coming in here is his new central defensive partner, with question marks being raised over the role of both Gabriel and Mertesacker in that Arsenal team.

We have gone for Kalidou Koulibaly; who seems the most likely of the Arsenal targets. A defender renowned for his passing ability and his towering six-foot-five-inch build, he would fit right in in that Arsenal back line, an excellent replacement for the ageing Per Mertesacker.

MF – Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey

Another new name comes in here in the form of new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder will anchor that Arsenal midfield, with his key attributes including his tackling ability and his physicality.

Familiarity will return in the form of his midfield partners in both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey will likely play alongside Xhaka, offering a contrasting style of play with his excellent dribbling and passing ability; whilst also not forgetting his defensive ability too.

This will give a fit again Jack Wilshere the license to roam a little bit farther forward, ridding him of any defensive duties whilst also allowing him to do what he does best; work the ball into the opposing third. If he can remain fit, we might just see the best of Jack once again.

The Arsenal midfield really lacked bite and defensive prowess last year, and Granit Xhaka will provide that.

With Gunners fans hoping that his qualities will, in turn, bring the best out of both Ramsey and Wilshere going forward.

Attackers – Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil

Reports have linked Arsenal with a number of strikers this summer, most notably Jamie Vardy, but as of yet none of these have come to fruition. As a result, it seems likely that Olivier Giroud will once again start the season as the side’s first choice number nine.

A towering striker with the ability to strike or head towards goal, he really is a fantastic forward.

He will of course continue to be flanked by Alexis Sanchez, and despite rumours linking him with a move away from Arsenal, it seems likely that he will remain. A fantastic winger, it is essential that The Gunners hold on to their star man.

In order to facilitate the return of Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil will be forced to play out on a wing which, whilst it is not his natural position, he has already proved that he can perform there. A right hand side, inside forward, position could still give the German the chance to keep his claim to the ‘King of assists’ title that he has been bestowed, whilst completing a potent attacking force.
