Manchester United resumed their Premier League campaign today, with a trip to Crystal Palace. This stage of the season is traditionally the time when United start coming into their own, and start sweeping everyone aside on another glorious march to a Premier League title.
This season has been a little bit different, with David Moyes overseeing what has to be described as the worst Premier League season in the clubs history.
Eight defeats already, seventh place in the table, and eleven points off fourth placed Liverpool, has left many Manchester United fans facing up to the fact this could be a season that sees them finish trophy-less and without Champions League football.
Many predicted Moyes may have struggled in his first season succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, but even the most pessimistic of United fans could not have predicted the form of the same team that won the title by 11 points last season – with the added additions of Maraoune Fellaini and Juan Mata.
One thing is for certain, and that is that Moyes will have to do a lot better in the transfer market next time around if he is to turn things around.
Many think United have been heavily paying the price for missing out on a host of midfield targets in the summer, so the pressure will really be on Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward when the window re-opens in the summer.
As expected, United have been linked with a huge number of players – with quite a few being mentioned from Ligue 1. Here we take a look at five Ligue 1 stars that could be on Manchester United’s summer transfer radar.
