Punters in the Transfer Tavern have been treated to some fine forward play so far this season. Indeed, the likes of Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero in particular see many of punters gasping in display at some of the performances they put in.
New forwards such as Anthony Martial, Odion Ighalo and Callum WIlson before his unfortunante knee injury have also impressed us, and strikers in general look as deadly as ever in the Barclays Premier League this season.
Top scorer Jamie Vardy is chasing a new Premier League record, he is one away from equalling the total of ten set by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and therefore going into the international break, it really has been a celebration for strikers and forwards alike this term.
Many punters were discussing who could get the golden boot, the usual names such as Vardy, Aguero, Kane and even Giroud were touted about, as the bets began to fly in.
However, one punter made an interesting point that got an even better discussion going, what about the forwards who play the role as the unsung hero. There are several forwards who despite putting in good performances, live in the shadow of their strike partner.
Even though they still play well and work tirelessly to provide for their strike partner, nobody is really talking about how well they have played. Below are five examples of very underrated Premier League strikers.

Arouna Kone
Before Kone’s sublime hat trick against Sunderland not long ago, not many had really been talking about what the Ivorian can bring to the table. The truth is Kone was terrific in that game, and wasn’t just scoring goals but also providing them too.
In several games this season Kone has been a great foil for Romelu Lukaku, who naturally has got more of the plaudits. However, while Kone may not score as many as the Belgian, he is still a very valuable asset to the Everton side.
Troy Deeney
Deeney has more recently been getting among the goals, but before that he had largely been in the shadow of his strike partner Odion Ighalo, who has scored seven this season.
However, Deeney had not been getting much credit despite the fact that he had been the man assisting many of these.
Deeney’s physical presence and ability has made him a nightmare for defenders, and while he hadn’t been scoring, had nevertheless been a crucial part of Watford’s success.
Wilfried Bony
Naturally Bony isn’t going to get as much praise, particularly when he is playing second fiddle to one of the world’s best strikers in the form of Sergio Aguero.
However, since Aguero’s recent injury, Bony has performed very well in his absence, and has showed how he can bring his own strengths to the table.
Again his physical presence and strong holds up play means he is a great benefactor for the likes of Raheem Sterling, but unfortunatley means he too misses out on some of the credit.
Loic Remy
Remy seems to be particularly underrated by one of the most important figures in his career, his manager. Despite Diego Costa’s atrocious performances, and Falcao doing nothing to show why Man United got rid of him, Mourinho still has limited Remy’s chances.
With bags of pace and his willingness to run in behind, Remy could be an answer to Chelsea’s on going problems. Remy should have won Chelsea a penalty in the most recent game against Stoke, yet continues to be overlooked by Mourinho, who seems content at shooting himself in the foot.
Shane Long
Though Long is undoubtedly not as good as first choice Southampton forward Graziano Pelle, the former Reading man still has a lot to offer.
The Irishman’s willingness to press defenders and run all day is a vital assett, and while Long is probably coveted as a key squad player by many at Southampton, he sometimes doesn’t get much praise from the opposition fans. L
ong is exactly the sort of man you want to come on for the last twenty minutes, with his energy being key in hassling tiring defenders.
