The punters here at the Transfer Tavern are in hot debate over where Ronald Koeman’s Southampton could finish this season.
After a slow start to their campaign, the Saints look back to their old selves again. Nevertheless, the vicious circle that is Southampton is the better they perform, the more likely they are resigned to losing their stars in the summer.
For now though, Koeman could look to bolster his squad in January once again, not only to prepare for any possible departures, but to also help them kick on in this current campaign.
Last January, Koeman bought in Elejro Elia, who are enjoyed a successful loan spell on the South Coast, before eventually joining Koeman’s former club Feyernood on a permanent basis.
Koeman and saints fans alike will be hoping that anyone brought in this window, will be having a similarly positive impact on their campaign.
Below are FIVE ideal signings for the Saints, who will look to go beyond last year’s heights.

Luciano Narsingh (PSV)
Koeman could once again raid the Eredivisie and turn to this exciting winger.
Narsingh, who scored the winner in their Champions League clash with Manchester United, could be an ideal signing for Southampton.
With his direct style and frightening pace, Narsingh could fit into an already exciting Southampton attack.
Ron Vlaar (Free Agent)
Many of course may have forgot about Ron Vlaar, who is currently a free agent and recovering from recent surgery.
While Vlaar would not get Saints fan’s too excited, he would be highly useful back up for an already solid partnership of Virgil Van Djik and Jose Fonte.
Cheikh M’Bengue (Stade Rennais)
One area that Southampton could look to strengthen is left back.
Indeed, it was an area they looked weak in when Ryan Bertrand was out injured at the start of the year.
M’Bengue is highly rated in France, and a few years ago had caught the attention of both Liverpool and Chelsea.
A top squad is often one that has strong competition in all areas, so signing M’Bengue would not only strengthen the squad, but very much keep Bertrand on his toes.
Sandro (QPR)
With Victor Wanyama likely to leave in the summer, this has potential to be a shrewd bit of business by Southampton.
Sandro, who currently plys his trade at QPR, is still only 26 and more than showed his capabilities as a defensive midfielder at Tottenham Hotspur.
Many fans, in fact, would actually feel he was a little unlucky to be sold in 2014.
Southampton could potentially secure the services of Sandro at a reasonable price, and could be a fine addition alongside Jordy Clasie in the midfield.
Charlie Austin (QPR)
Unfortunately for Saints, Koeman may also have to consider bolstering his attacking options if star man Saido Mane leaves the club next summer.
Austin is again more than likely going to catch a lot of club’s eyes in January.
Again, at the age of 26, Austin has a few years ahead of him yet, and would again provide more healthy competition in the squad.
