Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have had plenty of reasons to get the Champagne out this season.
The Sky Blues’ mission to reclaim the title they lost from Chelsea has started in sublime style. The ever reliable superstars such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva have been typically fantastic, Fernandino and Fernando have shown huge improvements from last season, while new boys Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne have also hit the ground running.
As City fans will know, every title winning side must have a great squad with plenty of depth and quality. On the whole, City have demonstrated this well, though a 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur did display some obvious cracks in their armour.
It got many of us talking in the Transfer Tavern. With the discussion being which players were now passengers at the Etihad, and simply weren’t up to the high standards that have now been built up over the years.
Below are five players who could soon be facing the chop at City in the near future.

Willy Caballero
Caballero was one of those who best displayed that City’s squad could still do with greater depth.
Indeed, the Argentinian goalkeeper’s display against Tottenham was extremely poor, and he simply isn’t a good enough back up keeper for a team that inspires to be among Europe’s elite.
Gael Clichy
While Clichy and Kolarov are arguably a very good selection of left backs for any squad, it is the Serbian who appears to be getting a much more consistent run in the team.
Clichy is now 30 years old, and Manuel Pellegrini may look for a younger prospect to play deputy to Kolarov, while Clichy himself may also wish to find a new challenge with greater first team opportunities.
Martin Demichelis
Despite a slow start to his career, Demichelis has proved a fairly useful squad player in recent years.
However, Demichelis now finds himself fourth choice centre back behind Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi.
Not only may Pellegrini wish to find a better centre back to compete with these names, but Demichelis may also wish to find one more challenge before he ends what has been a very good career.
Patrick Roberts
Roberts is very much one for the future after signing from Fulham. Given City’s incredible squad depth, a loan move for Roberts would be best for his development.
Though much has been documented about Roberts’ talent and potential, it remains to be seen whether he can forge a career at City, only time will tell.
Samir Nasri
Nasri is another player who has recently found himself out of the picture. Nasri now finds himself very much out of the first team, with Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling very much the preferred attacking front three.
While Nasri is someone who is a great example of good squad depth, he is arguably far too good to be sat on the bench, and may soon seek a move away.
