It has been a strange season for Liverpool supporters.
Only a month ago it looked as if their team were on course for a top four finish and success in the FA Cup. Brendan Rodgers was being hailed as a tactical genius for the way he had transformed the Reds season with a 3-4-2-1 formation, and everything seemed fine.
Yet defeats to Manchester United, Arsenal, and crucially Sunday’s dismal showing against Aston Villa at Wembley in the FA Cup semi final has seen Rodgers position come under threat once more.
Matters have not been helped by the fact Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has announced he will be leaving the club in the summer, and Liverpool fans seem pretty split as to whether the German should be brought in to replace Rodgers.

No trophy for three years
Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa put to bed any hopes the Reds had of a trophy – and gave Brendan Rodgers the unwanted record of becoming the first Liverpool boss in almost 70 years to fail to win a trophy during his first three seasons in charge.
Fenway Sports Group took over the club in 2010, and only have a League Cup in the cabinet to show for it so far.
Klopp is a man who has won big trophies during his time in Germany, whilst Rodgers only has play-off success with Swansea in 2011 to his name.
Rodgers’ record in Europe
Liverpool are perhaps best known for their success in Europe.
Britain’s most successful club on the continent with five European cups, Anfield has been a theatre for some of the most famous European nights.
Yet Rodgers record in Europe is very poor.
Eliminated in the Champions League group stage, and out in the last 32 of the Europa League twice during his reign, the progress on the European stage is starting to become a concern.
Klopp guided Borussia Dortmund to a Champions League final against the odds, and has far more experience than Rodgers when it comes to European competition.
Rodgers’ record in the transfer market is poor overall
Rodgers has spent more than £200million during his three years in charge at Anfield, and reports yesterday suggested FSG were willing to back him with more big money in the summer.
Of all those signings however, you could argue perhaps only Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho could be considered genuine successes.
The idea of trusting Rodgers with further money – especially when you look at some of the signings he made last summer – is one that worries plenty of Liverpool fans.
Klopp could attract some big names
There is no doubt Jurgen Klopp is considered to be one of the most respected coaches in Europe – meaning players will want to play for him.
His name will earn Liverpool more respect around Europe perhaps, with Rodgers relatively unknown outside of the Premier League.
Of course there are his Dortmund connections also, with Marco Reus and Mats Hummels two names that supporters are speculating could follow him to Anfield should he complete the move.
The chance may not come by again!
It is not very often one of the biggest managerial names in European football becomes available.
The Reds were linked with Klopp in 2012 before appointing Rodgers, with FSG basing their strategy at Anfield on the one Klopp instilled at Dortmund.
Whilst he remained loyal to Dortmund back then, Liverpool’s American owners may find the opportunity to lure him whilst he is unattached too much of an exciting prospect – despite the fact Rodgers has overall done an excellent job during his time at Liverpool.
The fear of Klopp going to a domestic rival and enjoying success if one that may force FSG to act earlier than expected.
