Newcastle United came away from Turf Moor with another vital victory on Monday evening, but they were not totally convincing in the final-third despite their win.
The back-three of Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar were immense. No question. They provided the foundations of a solid away performance and demonstrated a bravery to deliver the ball into forward positions at every available opportunity
But in the final-third Newcastle were, not for the first time, lacking a cutting edge. Salomon Rondon’s powerful performance against Bournemouth prior to the international break was a breath of fresh air for the supporters but, away from St James’ Park, he desperately struggled to influence the game.
Newcastle were crying out for a cutting edge, a moment of intricacy, a burst of pace. Rondon, clearly, is not the man to provide that type of quality in the final-third, but Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke, a player exiled by Jurgen Klopp this season, possesses the ability to do just that.
With that in mind, we asked Newcastle supporters if they would like to see Solanke arrive at the club, and the majority are eager to see Benitez complete a deal for the 21-year-old.
Considering Solanke has all the credentials to be a much better striker than the immobile Rondon, it’s absolutely no surprise that the Newcastle fans would like to see him at St James’ Park.
Solanke scored four goals in two appearances for the England U21s during the international break, including an outrageous backheel to loft the ball over the keepers outstretched leg, which suggests he is destined to thrive in the Premier League when he is eventually given the chance.
Over to you Rafa.
