£7M For A Premiership Flopstar – Surely Not, Mr Dalglish?

Wigan have survived the dreaded drop but regardless of whether they played in the Premier League next season or not, they still face the challenge of hanging on to their star man.

With Liverpool looking to add to their squad this summer, it seems as though they might turn to their neighbours in the hope of signing Charles N’Zogbia.

The French winger has not only been the star of the Wigan set up this season but has made a considerable impact since signing in 2009. He has in the past tried to manufacture a move away from the DW in order to enhance his career and live up to his own footballing ambitions. The winger rejected Birmingham’s approach last summer and decided to stay on in Wigan, leaving many questioning his temperamental and flamboyant attitude.

After winning his first cap for France in the post-world cup era, it seems as though it might be time for the Frenchman to satisfy his personal ambitions and seek pastures new. N’Zogbia has been linked with his old club, Newcastle over the course of the season but it also looks as though Liverpool might be interested in signing the stylish winger which might be more suited to the player’s ambitions.

The valuation of the 24-year-old is much debated and might cause a potential glitch in such a transfer. If by the point this is being read, Wigan have been relegated then the price tag would be around £7mill which is in the area consistent to Liverpool’s valuation. Whereas, if Wigan have survived the drop and maybe even the Zog was the star of the show then the valuation would rocket to double that price leaving a gulf between the two parties.

The might of Liverpool is likely to prevail at the end of this saga however. It is very difficult nowadays to keep a player when a big club like Liverpool come calling, especially if you are a relatively small club like Wigan Athletic placed in the middle of a rugby town. A valuation of around £7mill would be the most likely outcome for an agreement between the clubs and could see Charles N’Zogbia finally seal a move to Anfield that would exceed his own ambitions.
