Arsenal’s season received a timely boost in midweek as they booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals.
A disciplined 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon sealed a 1-0 aggregate victory, setting up a huge clash with Atletico Madrid in the last four.
Despite that success, recent weeks have seen their domestic campaign lose momentum, placing even greater importance on how they finish the season — and how they strengthen in the summer.
A strong end, potentially capped by major silverware, would significantly enhance their pulling power in the transfer market.
And it seems one high-profile target may already be within reach.
Arsenal Leading Race for Gordon
Arsenal are reportedly in pole position to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, with the England international high on their shortlist.
The 25-year-old — described as “excellent” by Eddie Howe — is believed to be open to leaving St James’ Park, attracting interest from several top clubs including Liverpool and Bayern Munich. However, Arsenal appear to hold a key advantage in the race.
According to The Sun, the Gunners are prepared to push ahead with a deal worth around £75 million, identifying Gordon as a priority addition to strengthen their wide options. Crucially, the player is thought to favour a move to London, which could give Arsenal the edge over their rivals.
Gordon had previously come close to joining Liverpool, while Bayern could offer the appeal of linking up with Harry Kane in Germany. Nevertheless, Arsenal’s project — and their location — may prove decisive factors.
The North London club are also expected to reshuffle their attacking options this summer, with one of Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard potentially moving on, further underlining the need for reinforcements on the wing.
