Arsenal: Fans laud Mesut Ozil after the German’s performance in defeat to Chelsea

Mesut Ozil hasn’t always been the most popular of figures with the red half of north London during recent times.

In the last few years, there have been some calls from fans to sell the former Real Madrid man, who currently earns an eye-opening £350k a week (via The Independent).

However, his performance against Chelsea could well be going a long way to changing the opinions of the Emirates Stadium faithful.

So how well did the German play against Chelsea? Well, during his 75 minutes on the pitch, he played the most key passes (2) and was the second-most fouled player (3) in Mikel Arteta’s side (via WhoScored).

And as the football world has come to expect from the former Germany international, his passing was crisp and progressive as he played the most passes in the final third (13) in his side.

His performance saw him earn a rating of eight out of 10 from James Benge, of football.london, who claimed his time on the field was of ‘remarkable brilliance’.

Fans were lavishing the playmaker with praise after his influential performance against Frank Lampard’s side as they took to Twitter to react.
