Arsenal are one of several top European clubs interested in signing Spain and Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams, according to a transfer report from his homeland.

The Lowdown: Williams playing his part for Spain

The 20-year-old was named in Spain's squad for the 2022 World Cup earlier this month, immediately highlighting what a big young prospect he is in the European game.

Williams has appeared in both of his country's group stage matches to date, being trusted to come on and make an impact in the high-profile encounter against Germany on Sunday night.

Away from the World Cup, the Spaniard is being linked with a move away from Bilbao.

The Latest: Arsenal eyeing up Williams

According to Goal Espana [via Sport Witness], Arsenal see Williams' €50m (£43.1m) release clause as a 'temptation', along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Athletic Bilbao are hopeful that he will remain loyal to them, but with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2024, time is starting to tick away before they risk losing him for free.

The Verdict: One for the future

Williams is a player with huge potential, having already racked up 57 appearances for Athletic Bilbao and five caps for Spain at the age of just 20, so Arsenal would be wise to make a move for him.

Mikel Arteta is building a wonderful young squad at Arsenal and the winger is someone who could come in as an initial deputy to the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, while also providing genuine competition for places.

His brother Inaki, who's representing Ghana at the World Cup, has described him as 'incredible', and Arteta could feel that he is the man to further hone the 20-year-old's game, making him the next exciting young addition at the Emirates Stadium.
