Arsenal: Gunners courting Moussa Diaby ahead of summer - Arsenal News

Arsenal are reportedly ‘hotly courting’ Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby ahead of a potential move this summer.

The Lowdown: January interest

Arsenal held an interest in Diaby in the January transfer window, but a move proved too difficult to complete.

They ended up signing Leandro Trossard from Brighton and Hove Albion to add extra cover to their forward line, but may look for a level-raiser this summer, after being snubbed by Mykhaylo Mudryk when he joined London rivals Chelsea in a whopping £88.5m deal.

The Latest: Diaby courted

As per German news outlet Bild, Diaby has been ‘hotly courted’ by the Gunners ahead of a possible move this summer.

However, they may face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United for his signature.

The Verdict: Get it done

If Mikel Arteta‘s team want to continue to chase Premier League titles like they are doing this season, and want to make a statement in the UEFA Champions League, then Diaby is the kind of calibre of player that they should be signing this summer.

Hailed as possessing a ‘supernatural, divine gift’ for dribbling and having ‘explosiveness’ on the ball by the president of his first club Morade Djeddi, Diaby ranks in the 97th percentile of all forwards in Europe’s top leagues for progressive carries per game, as well as in the 88th for successful take-ons (FBRef).

The Frenchman also has a high end product, with 61 goal contributions in his last three-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga.

Nonetheless, Diaby is still just 23 years of age, and so has such a high ceiling, so the North Londoners would do well to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
