There are cheers of approval from Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern after a talkSPORT representative popped by to inform punters that Andre Santos could be set to quit his Arsenal hell and move back to Brazil with Gremio.
The hapless left back has been nothing short of appalling when appearing for the Gunners this term and the faith (or lack of) as placed in the Brazilian was illuminated for all to see when Arsene Wenger had to make a last ditch signing Nacho Monreal to cover for the injured Kieran Gibbs.
The Brazilian transfer window is still open until Tuesday where club’s can sign players before the forthcoming Copa Libertadores and the publication claim that the Porto Alegre-based side would be interested in offering Santos an escape route out of the Emirates Stadium.
Gremio president Fabio Koff told Brazilian newspaper Zero Hora: “Andre Santos is one of our interests. We talked with Arsenal, but there is nothing certain. It is a very difficult negotiation.”
Many Arsenal fans burnt their bridges with the Brazilian following his ludicrous decision to swap shirts with Gunners public enemy number one – Robin van Persie during half time in Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier in the season and Santos had looked like replacing Emmanuel Eboue as the club’s jokey cult her, but the only joke has been his reckless defending.
It remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will keep Santos as cover for the Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, seen as Nacho Monreal is ineligible having played for Malaga in the earlier stages. Instead the French manager may favour a move to switch the left footed Thomas Vermaelen to full back.

I have supported Arsenal for 35 years and this man is the worst ever left-back I have seen. In terms of defending and attitude Santos is unprofessional and a total liability. Represents all that is wrong at Arsenal and in football generally.
