It is common knowledge that Arsenal are in the market for a striker, and news has reached us here at the Football Transfer Tavern of who exactly it may be courtesy of Gary Jacob at The Times
Arsenal are thought to have opened formal talks to sign Dutch international striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from German club Schalke.
The Dutchman is a target for a host of top clubs, with the striker thought to be available for as little as £6 million, with his contract set to expire in the summer.
Tottenham and Liverpool have both been linked with a move, as well as Italian giants Inter Milan who were understood to be favourites for his signature.
A sticking point in the proposed Arsenal transfer could prove to be his wages however, with it understood that Huntelaar is demanding a three year deal worth £100,000 a week.
