Arsenal’s first-team squad don’t want Mikel Arteta as the club’s new manager, according to a report in The Mirror.

It has also been reported that the underperforming squad would like the Everton-bound Carlo Ancelotti as the club’s new manager.
The players are believed to want the Italian due to his vast levels of experience in comparison to Arteta, whose position as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola has proven to be his only coaching role.
If Unai Emery’s tenure as head coach of the club has taught the world of football one thing, it’s that experience counts for nothing when undertaking a job like the one at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are in need of a rebuild, from the first-team squad to developing a recognised style of play, and to hire someone like Ancelotti would not provide those aspects.
The former Bayern Munich man proves to be a manager who usually thrives when he has the best of players at his disposal, seen by the squads he managed in Spain (Real Madrid), France (Paris Saint-Germain) and England (Chelsea), for example.
Arsenal showed in last summer’s transfer window, and over course of this season, that their eyes are firmly on youth. Out of the six players that moved to north London, five of them were 23-years-old or younger at the time of joining (via Transfermarkt).
The integration of players like Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe further adds weight to the point that youth is at the forefront of the minds of the higher powers at the club.
To add to the above, the 60-year-old has failed in his last two jobs at big European clubs, Bayern Munich and Napoli as he ended up getting sacked. His run at the Sao Paulo ended in horrific circumstances as the former AC Milan manager won just one of his final 10 games in all competitions (via WhoScored).
Arsenal need so much more than just an experienced head; they need someone with a set style of play and the ability to walk them into a new era. Ancelotti would not provide that and could well be a disastrous appointment.
