There isn’t an awful lot to shout about for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern right now, considering the nature of their last few months. Out of the title race, out of the Champions League and now out of the top four, the Gunners need some cheering up.
Well, reports emanating out of Spain will do little on that front.
According to Marca, the Premier League giants were close to an agreement with Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette, who has long been linked with a move to these isles. One of the most prolific frontmen in Europe, the French international is understood to have been a ‘step away’ from the Gunners, though reported interest from Atletico Madrid is said to have scuppered the deal.
Los Rojiblancos are thought to be running the rule over the 25-year-old themselves, with the Les Blues forward reported to cost around €35m should he leave Ligue 1 this summer. While the Arsenal fans in the bar are used to transfer disappointments, this one could sting, if they really were close to signing him.
Should Arsenal attempt to sign Lacazzete?
