Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are feeling a sense of realism after the Daily Mail revealed that they are closing in on West Ham United defender Winston Reid with a cut-price bid of £4 million.
Reid, who is also the New Zealand captain, has been a standout performer for the Hammers this year and Arsene Wenger is confident he can make him an Arsenal player in the New Year.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Gunners believe they can force the Hammers into selling him in January rather than risk losing him on a free at the end of the season.
Arsenal have not kept their interest a secret after watching the defender player in every single game since November.
And with Sam Allardyce aware of this attention, it is believed West Ham are fighting to get him to sign a new deal but it is believed Reid wants more than £60,000 per week in addition to a £1 million signing-on fee.
