Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hopeful that the lack of business completed this window won’t hamper their progress for the rest of the season.
The Magpies entered the January transfer window eyeing up three positions of need that Benitez had highlighted, but only a striker, ‘keeper and a left-back could be secured in the entirety of the transfer window. Much of this was down to the slow work-rate of the club in trying to come to agreements with other teams, as the bulk of their time was spent on the phone trying to pull through deals for a ‘record-signing’ striker that saw Mike Ashley pocket the supposed £20 million budget.
However, with them completing deals for Martin Dubravka and Islam Slimani in the form of loans on deadline day, it’s all up in the air as to why the club dwelled on potential signings for so long during the whole of January. But, in what was a disaster of a transfer window filled with disappointment and hopes being shattered, journalist Lee Ryder only caused for further frustration on the faces of Newcastle fans, as he took to his personal Twitter account to display a quote from Benitez that stated he wasn’t happy with the speed of the transfer window progress.
Rafa Benitez not satisfied with slow transfer window progress: “We knew that bringing in players early was important to us especially with games against Swansea and this game.” #nufc

Following the post, fans were quick to put the blame on the manager for his decision-making this season, as the hierarchy were also in the firing line.
Nevertheless, here’s a look at exactly the sort of reaction supporters gave off on social media…
He can't put all the blame on them. We have mitro and Gayle there and he plays joselu who single handily cost us the points?

Mike ashley and charnley are rotten to the core

The fact that we didn't take our chances backs his argument. He's a clever bloke Rafa and its a shame the clubs hierarchy dont value him

Ashley DELIBERATELY bid too low on players and even loans only while every other club bought in. Ashley is a nightmare for NUFC
