Responding to an anniversary piece from Aston Villa’s official club account, many Villa supporters have been debating and reminiscing over former starlet Christian Benteke – with the Belgian forward currently out of favour at Crystal Palace.
Benteke, who scored 49 goals and assisted 12 others over three seasons at Villa Park before moving to Liverpool in 2015 (Transfermarkt), has played just 831 minutes since the start of this campaign for current club Palace – starting a meagre eight games with the vast majority of his cameos coming from the bench (WhoScored). Indeed, in stark contrast to his Villa days, it appears the Belgium international is currently struggling for regular game time to garner a run of form – having scored just one goal in the league this season.
Five years ago this week, Benteke produced arguably one of his most memorable moments in a Villa shirt – bagging the winning penalty against arch rivals West Bromwich Albion in the dying minutes.
This has resulted in many supporters debating their ex-favourite and ‘monster‘ on social media – find all of their best comments down below.
What a player. Man was a monster

Has anyone heard that Benteke is coming back to Aston Villa? We could certainly use him.
