Steve Bruce could still look to add to his defence, despite the transfer window having closed in August.
The Villans are short of options at the back and have been heavily linked with a move to bring John Terry back to Villa Park.
The defender, who has appeared for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and most recently Dundee, is still only 26-years-old and could offer the Villans some vital experience at the back.
However, his career has stalled and stagnated at times, as he has admitted to battling problems off the field.
The Verdict:

There would be no risk on taking Caulker on an initial trial basis to see how well he can cope with the demands of the Championship.
The defender has plenty of experience of playing at that level and would certainly help to improve the backline, should he prove himself to still be capable of doing so.
However, Villa will need to act quickly, as it is widely believed that he could head to Ukraine and join Arsenal Kiev.
