Lots of Aston Villa fans let rip at midfielder Matt Targett after his side fell to a 4-3 defeat to Southampton on Sunday.
Dean Smith’s side came unstuck against the South Coast outfit as James Ward-Prowse scored a brace to condemn them to their second successive home loss.
Tyrone Mings got a goal back for Villa when they were 4-0 down, with Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish making the scoreline look a bit more respectable. Despite this, the Villa Park faithful went in on Targett after he was outplayed in the game.
During the encounter, Targett lost possession 19 times, misplaced four long balls and failed to make a single interception (Sofascore).
Should Matt Targett be sold?
Yes
No
Unsurprisingly, supporters lambasted Targett in what was their second consecutive defeat in the league, with a trip to Arsenal on the horizon for the Villans.
Targett targetted
Genuinely think we don’t know how to react when we go 1 down! We seem to panic and then end up being very easy to breakdown!
4 wins from 6 still a good start but we have to improve when going behind! Targett not good enough! Hourihane should start next game #avfc— Alex Collyer (@Collyer85) November 1, 2020
I wonder if we can give Targett back to Southampton so they can take him home with them? #avfc

Targett is a defensive liability and always has been – which will be why Southampton sold him.
