On Saturday whilst during their 2-0 loss at home to West Brom, Aston Villa fans will have been gutted to see John McGinn go into the book for a challenge on Gareth Barry just minutes after the break. That yellow card was the Scotsman’s 10th of the season and it means he’ll now miss the next two games against Stoke City and Derby County.

On the bright side for McGinn, he’ll be back in time to feature in the second city derby between Birmingham City and the Villains at St Andrew’s. Villa Park may be a place filled with negativity at the moment seeing as they could be set to miss out on the playoffs and finish below their city rivals, yet doing the double over Birmingham would provide the fans with the ideal remedy.
McGinn will be absolutely crucial to that, and with his suspension giving him time to rest and recover ahead of that huge derby clash, the fans will hope he’s ready to drop a man of the match display when that came comes around on March 8th. For now, though, the fans will be trying to get through Stoke and Debry without their star, whose two goals and eight assists have made him one of their key men in the middle of the park this season.
