Aston Villa fans have been given some strange news today as it appears, according to The Daily Mail, Micah Richards will be retiring in the summer at the end of his contract. The 30-year-old hasn’t played a game of football since October 2016 when he was forced off against Wolves with a major knee injury.

There will certainly be no love lost for Richards by the Villa fans when he does up his boots. The defender has been at the club collecting his wages and not playing for over two years now, and whilst he may have had his injury problems, and he may not be quite as hated as Joleon Lescott, he’s still viewed as public enemy number one in Birmingham.
The defender looked to have such a bright future when he was coming through at Manchester City, but things have ended so badly for the defender. The highlights of his career will certainly be the trophies he won with City and the 13 England caps he received, yet it will be hard to shake the disappointment of his Villa days where he only really featured in their relegation season before missing over two years of football and announcing his retirement.
