Aston Villa: Fans praise Henri Lansbury for outstanding Carabao Cup performance

Henri Lansbury bagged two assists and and put in an influential performance during Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Lansbury set up both of Villa’s goals in their Midlands derby victory over rivals Wolves, putting a well-weighted through ball on a plate for Anwar El Ghazi to squeeze it under John Ruddy.

Later on in the match, almost immediately after Wolves equalised through Patrick Cutrone, Villa took the lead again – with Lansbury directing a good free-kick into the path of Ahmed Elmohamady to bundle it home at the near post.

The 29-year-old put on a fantastic display at Villa park, undoubtedly being the difference between victory and defeat – advancing Dean Smith’s side to the League Cup quarter-finals almost single-handedly.

In stark contrast, Lansbury has barely been given a look-in so far this season in the Premier League, playing just nine minutes of the campaign over two brief cameos off the bench.

Now, it looks like he could be knocking on the door, with Aston Villa celebrating the midfielder’s performance in a Twitter post.

As a result, supporters have flocked to have their say on the Englishman, labelling him with deserved praise.
