Many Aston Villa fans have looked ahead to the Thursday evening game with Manchester United after comments made by Dean Smith on his hopes for a win.
The Claret and Blue side will face a must-win game against United as they look to fight off the threat of relegation.
Poor form since the Premier League restart in June has seen Smith’s side continue to sit in the bottom three and defeat against Liverpool last time out further enhanced the chances of Villa suffering a drop back to the Championship.
Approaching the game, Smith will be fully aware of United’s good form, having gone nine games unbeaten in the Premier League.
Villa on the other hand in comparison, have failed to win in their last nine outings, drawing twice and losing seven.
However, ever the optimist, Smith has been discussing his plans for the game against the Red Devils.
“We’ll be going all out to get that win against United. But we’ll certainly need a performance similar to what we had against Liverpool,” he is quoted as saying by Express and Star.
With those comments shared by Twitter account @villareport, fans responded with split opinion. Some seemed to share Smith’s optimism, perhaps taking into account the improved display against Liverpool last time out where they stopped them scoring until the 71st minute (BBC).
Meanwhile others were less sure of getting a result, perhaps understandably given the form of the two sides.

As deluded as it sounds given we’ve taken 2 points from our last 10 and united 24. If we play like we did against Liverpool, with optimism, and go forward, I think we have a good chance. That being said we won’t play like we did and we’ll get spanked 4-0
