Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has addressed the mistake made by defender Ezri Konsa which led to Newcastle United’s goal on Wednesday evening.
The Claret and Blue side approached the game against Steve Bruce’s side in desperate need of some points, sitting in the bottom three of the Premier League.
Having failed to win a game since the restart after the pandemic, Villa’s hopes of gaining three points were made even harder after Dwight Gayle opened the scoring midway into the second period.
The former West Bromwich Albion loanee has been a bit part player for the Bruce’s side this season, but he took full advantage after a mistake by defender Konsa.
Following the game, Villa boss Smith commented on the youngster’s mistake, telling Birmingham LIVE that he had words in the changing room.
Dean Smith: “You can’t account for a mistake. Ezri’s gone to sleep and I’ve had a bit of a pop at him in the dressing room after because he needs to learn from it.” [birmingham live] #avfc

Villa did manage to get themselves back in the game as Ahmed Elmohamady struck with seven minutes remaining on the clock. The draw sees Villa sit level on points with 18th place Bournemouth and 17th place West Ham United.
Reacting to Smith’s comment on Konsa which was shared via Twitter account @villareport, fans gave their opinion on the defender. However, it seems whilst most acknowledge he made an error, many feel that the manager should also be giving stick to both Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings for their part in the goal, with the latter failing to close down Andy Carroll who set up Gayle.
Same should apply to Mings and Hause both getting sucked out of position too. All 3 culpable

That’s poor from Smith, he shouldn’t be singling out a young player like that- he should keep his criticism of players for the dressing room, that’s not going to help Konsa’s confidence at all
