Many Aston Villa fans are buzzing following the news that manager Dean Smith has been nominated for the Premier League’s October Manager of the Month award.
Villa played three matches in the top flight last month – one was the loss against Leeds United. However the other two were great victories over high-flying Liverpool and Leicester City. The victory against the Reds was the most notable as they thrashed Jurgen Klopp’s side 7-2.
This has them currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table and the season looks much different to last campaign when they were in a relegation battle until the final day.
It is good to see Smith is being recognised for his work at the club. This highlights how much progress they have made since he took over with them in the Championship – it was no surprise to see a club icon like Gabby Agbonlahor drooling over Smith’s work recently.
He faces some hard competition to win the award as David Moyes, Jose Mourinho, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Nuno Espirito Santo are the other managers nominated for the award.
