Aston Villa’s official Twitter account has posted a video of David Ginola’s first goal for the club and plenty of supporters have been reacting to it.
In a game against Manchester City, a free-kick was clipped into the box but the ball was initially cleared by a defender. However, it fell invitingly to Ginola who was lurking outside the penalty area and he unleashed a venomous strike on the half-volley which beat goalkeeper Nicky Weaver.
It is a memorable goal not only because of the quality of the strike, but also because of his celebration. The Frenchman famously took his shirt off after scoring this goal to show his toned physique in response to his manager, John Gregory, who had suggested that he was overweight – even labelling him ‘Mr Blobby’ (via Birmingham Mail).

The goal came in the 86th minute and helped Villa secure a 2-2 draw, with Dion Dublin netting the other which Ginola actually assisted (Premier League).
The former winger joined the Villans from Tottenham Hotspur in 2000 and played a total of 40 games for them in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists (Transfermarkt).
Loads of Villa fans have been reacting to the clip, with one remembering Gregory’s comments about the French star and claiming that he had ‘mugged him off‘. Here is what some had to say…
