Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has prompted fans to react to a comment made on the club’s relegation battle ahead of Wednesday evening’s game with Sheffield United.
The Midlands outfit will return to Premier League action against the Blades on Wednesday, where they will be looking to move themselves out of the bottom three, having a game in hand over their relegation rivals.
Smith, who guided Villa to a promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last season, has seen his side have a largely inconsistent season, struggling to find form in the league but playing well in cup action which saw them meet Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final earlier this year.

Nervously awaiting the return of Premier League football, Villa will be looking to take advantage on Wednesday evening as they kick off the restart of England’s top flight which has been suspended due to the pandemic since early March.

Smith, who has been speaking to Villa TV prior to the game, has now prompted a response from fans of the club after saying: “Everybody has written us off already. Our job now is to prove to ourselves that we are good enough but also to prove people wrong. The players have to come up with their own motivation now and hopefully (the fans) will see an improved Aston Villa.”
Responding the comments made by Villa’s boss, fans gave a mixed reaction after Twitter account @villareport shared Smith’s words. Many urged the ex-Brentford boss to fix their defensive issues, indeed the Villans have shipped a league high 56 goals. Meanwhile others suggested the manager should be replaced, understandable given their lowly position in the table…
