Many Aston Villa fans have taken a swipe at Dean Smith for his comments after the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into the game against Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions, Villa knew they needed a win, having picked up just two points in five games since the league’s restart.
Sitting 18th in the table, the task against Liverpool proved to be a tricky one, although Smith’s side did hold off conceding a goal until the 71st minute. Sadio Mane opened the scoring, netting past former Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina, before Curtis Jones sealed all three points and condemn Villa to a 20th league defeat of the season.
Smith was in defiant mood after the game, saying that “they can take heart” from how they played against the champions despite the result.

The Midlands side now sit one point behind Watford, who hover just above the bottom three, and four points off West Ham in 16th, as per premierleague.com.
Reacting to Smith’s comments, many Villa fans had a negative opinion of the performance, with one claiming that the manager is “out of his depth”. Here is a selection of responses to the result:
