Usually, here in the Transfer Tavern, our Middlesbrough and Aston Villa fans get on, but The Mirror’s report Boro want £10 million for Jordan Rhodes is threatening to spoil that.
Boro are currently more than holding their own in the Premier League whilst Villa still harbour hopes of a play-off push in the Championship and have been linked with Rhodes in a bid to help bolster that.
The striker has struggled at the Riverside since joining and, certainly this season, looks very much like a squad player rather than the main man he would have hoped to be.
The likes of Alvaro Negredo are ahead of him in the pecking order and so a move to Villa may just help rejuvenate his career.
A lethal striker in the Championship, Rhodes apparently won’t come cheap with a frankly astonishing price tag being slapped on his head.
It’s certainly got our local Boro and Villans punters going with the latter saying it’s as close to daylight robbery that you can get for a striker that has barely played this season.
Our landlord agrees, but thinks if they could negotiate a lower price, then Rhodes would still be a class signing.
