Aston Villa will be wary of the Financial Fair Play rules that could come into effect, however, it appears they are still prepared to offer one of their key men a new deal to remain at the club.
The captain had been linked with a move away from Villa Park during the summer as they suffered from the financial fallout, however, Steve Bruce managed to keep hold of him for the current Championship campaign.
And, it appears that the new owners are also keen on keeping him at the club for as long as possible as they want to discuss a new deal with him.
The board, who are thought to be reluctant to offer extensions to older players, deem that Chester is one they need to keep at Villa Park on a long-term basis.
The Verdict:

Aston Villa would be right to try and keep Chester at the club for as long as possible, although there will be concerns if they do not ease their wage spending and do not win promotion.
At the moment, Premier League football looks unlikely for the Villans as Bruce’s side continue to struggle to pick up points and pressure is seemingly appearing to mount.
However, they will need to keep the defender at the club as they currently lack a number of options and should they have problems once again next summer, they will be bitterly disappointed to see him go.
