It hasn’t been the best start to the Premier League season for Trezeguet at Aston Villa. He started the first five games, but was then dropped by Dean Smith.
It is part of being a footballer, but they can react in a positive or negative way when this happens, and former Villa Park ace Alan Hutton has piled praise on the attacker for his attitude.
Hutton’s comments on Trezeguet
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I actually liked his attitude, if I’m honest. It’s easy for a player to get dropped or rotated, whatever you want to call it, and kind of throw your toys out the pram or sulk about it.
“He came on after whatever it was, 20, 30 minutes or something, and he really showed he was really ready to fight for the position.”
Hutton continued, saying: “He was hungry, he was ratting about, he was closing people down – yes, it was sometimes a bit headless chicken but you could see he wanted to prove a point, which I liked.
“He was showing the manager: ‘I should be playing.’ He has been given a lot of opportunities and I still believe the place is up for grabs but it’s up to one of them to take it.”
Trezeguet attitude at Villa is a huge positive
He has only got one assist so far this season in the top flight, but the winger has produced a decent attacking threat, managing 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.3 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
He might not have been dropped if he could have turned this threat into more goals, and he was given his chance to bounce back much sooner than expected when Bertrand Traore went off injured against Southampton.
Hutton’s comments are backed up by the numbers, as the Egypt international had three shots on target, and won three ground duels and two aerial duels (SofaScore).
Trezeguet may not start against Arsenal, but he has definitely shown Smith that he will give 100% whether he starts or comes on as a substitute.
