Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Rangers winger Ryan Kent after Steven Gerrard took over at Villa Park.

However, reliable reporter Gregg Evans now doesn’t think a January move will materialise, which has had a number of Villa fans talking on social media.

Gerrard was promised a huge January kitty by NSWE when discussing the Villa Park post, and it isn’t just Kent who has been linked with a move from Glasgow to the Midlands, with Glen Kamara, Borna Barisic, Nathan Patterson, Connor Goldson and Joe Aribo also been named as reported targets.

Evans shared a transfer mailbag on The Athletic on Wednesday and responded to one fan’s question regarding the links to Kent. He said ‘I’m pretty sure it’s a no’, with Villa already having plenty of attacking options.

Villa fans react

Total Villa shared Evans’ claim regarding Kent on Twitter. This is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with many not exactly gutted at the update.

“Not sure we should be signing anyone from Rangers. SPL is championship level and if any of them were that good lots of teams would be circling. I will however trust Gerrard’s judgement.”

“Didn’t care for Kent anyway but I hope we’re still looking at wingers. We could do with another one unless El Ghazi or Trezeguet turn out amazing under Gerrard”

“Absolute nobody. No one at Rangers could get near our squad. A Skint clubs fantasy to appease their supporters they have funds. Glasgow's Birmingham City.”

“Media always link a new manager to players from former clubs.”
