Many Aston Villa fans want to bring back Frederic Guilbert after the Midlands club reported him making a match-winning contribution for Strasbourg on loan.
As per the report, the 26-year-old grabbed himself an assist to set up a late winner for his team against their Ligue 1 rivals FC Metz in what was his first game in the division since his loan move away.
Should Aston Villa bring Guilbert back?
Guilbert was a fairly solid performer in the 2019/20 term, winning no fewer than 6.6 of his duels a game in the Premier League and also averaging three tackles, 2.5 clearances and two interceptions per match (Sofascore).
Thus, he could probably count himself a bit unlucky to be sent out on loan by Dean Smith’s side, following the arrival of Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.
With Smith confirming that he suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday night, Cash may face a number of weeks out, leaving several members of the Villa Park faithful to call for Guilbert’s return – one fan even expressed their worry that the decision to let him go out on loan “could be very costly” over the coming weeks.
Aston Villa fan reaction to Guilbert report
These AVFC supporters all called for Guilbert to return to the club on Twitter following his loan report:
“Recall him because Cash is injured and he’ll help us out defensively”
“Great, recall him”
“Bring him back now.”
“Come back to Villa Park”
“Get a plane out to get him back now!”
“Bring the boy home….. We need him in Europe next year”
“Said it at the time but loaning out Guilbert in January seemed like a very odd decision considering we were one injury away from Elmo having to play vs players like Barnes and Harrison. Could be very costly over the next few weeks” #avfc
“Far too good to be on loan”
