Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could potentially leave the club during the summer transfer window, according to a fresh report.

The Lowdown: Martinez a huge name now

The 30-year-old has been a good goalkeeper for some time now but his profile has truly skyrocketed in the past few months, following his heroics at the 2022 World Cup.

Along with Lionel Messi, Martinez was arguably Argentina's star player on their way to glory in Qatar, proving to be the hero in penalty shootout wins and making a huge last-gasp save against France in the final.

The Argentine is now back at Villa and continuing to play well, and while his current deal doesn't expire until 2027, it could be that he moves on soon.

The Latest: Summer exit possible

According journalist Pete O'Rourke, writing for Football Insider, the Villans will 'listen to potential offers' for Martinez this summer, with the player himself eyeing up a fresh challenge.

He is believed to want to play at the 'highest level' possible and Villa seemingly won't stand in his way with Unai Emery even 'open' to adding the shot-stopper's possible sale fee to his transfer war chest.

The Verdict: Predictable exit

In truth, it is hard to see the Villans keeping hold of Martinez beyond the end of this season, with top clubs like Man United potentially keen on acquiring his signature.

His performances at the World Cup showed why is one of the best around in his position currently - members of the media described him as 'world-class' - and he will surely have Champions League ambitions, which Villa can't offer him.

Ideally, the 26-cap Argentina ace would stay put at Villa Park for many years to come, but if he does leave, the club should at least receive big money for him.

The length of Martinez's current deal puts Villa in a strong bargaining position and they could use the money on a couple of top-quality new signings in key areas.
