A number of Aston Villa fans were critical of Danny Ings' performance in their Boxing Day defeat against Chelsea.

The home side took the lead through a Reece James own goal but two penalties from Jorginho either side of a Romelu Lukaku strike consigned Villa to defeat against Thomas Tuchel's men.

On an evening when Villa failed to fire in front of goal, their £25m summer signing had a game to forget, his barren streak now standing at just one goal in his last 11 Premier League matches, having scored in both of his first two top-flight appearances for the club (Transfermarkt).

As per SofaScore, the 29-year-old completed only 12 passes and had just 24 touches - the fewest of any Villa starter for both metrics - while also losing three of his four duels (75%) and failing to record a shot on target before he was withdrawn in the 73rd minute at Villa Park.

Villa fans slam Ings

These Villa fans on Twitter were far from pleased with what they saw from Ings against Chelsea, with one supporter labelling him a "panic signing".
