Many Aston Villa fans reacted to a report which claimed Newcastle had a £20m bid accepted for Callum Wilson, prior to confirmation that the striker has joined the Magpies.
After suffering relegation with the Cherries, the four-cap England international has now completed his return to the Premier League.
Villa, who stayed up on the final day of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw with West Ham United, will look to make some improvements to their squad and it expected that boss Dean Smith is keen to add a striker to bolster his attacking options.
The likes of Wesley, Mbwana Samatta, and Keinan Davis all struggled to find consistent goalscoring form last season and Wilson was linked to the Midlands club.
The Telegraph were the first to report that the 28-year-old, who has netted 41 times in 126 Premier League matches, was of interest to Villa, but they have now missed out on the former Coventry man.
Reacting to news of Wilson’s move to the north east, fans gave the following opinion with some questioning Smith’s intentions during the summer transfer window as the new season fast approaches.
I still can’t get my head around we will pay 20m for him…… But still won’t pay that for benrahma 🤔🤔

Wondering what the board are doing? Week before the season starts and we’ve signed a right back a position we didn’t really need ?

No point continuing if player has made it clear he prefers the other club.
