Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern were once again left underwhelmed and disappointed by their side after seeing the Toffees lose 2-1 at home to Lyon on Thursday, leaving their Europa League qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
Ronald Koeman’s men went into their clash with the Ligue 1 outfit having picked up just one point from their opening two group games, and the mood around Goodison Park hardly improved when Nabil Fekir converted a sixth minute penalty for the visitors following Mason Holgate’s foul on Marcal. Ashley Williams did equalise for the home side 21 minutes from time in an improved second half display, but they were unable to grab something from proceedings as Bertrand Traore bagged the winner with quarter of an hour of the game remaining.
And, unsurprisingly, another defeat has increased the pressure on under-fire manager Koeman, who has overseen just two wins from their opening eight Premier League matches, and faces a crucial encounter against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday.
In what was another frustrating evening for our resident Evertonians, there was one man in particular who appeared to seriously struggle against Lyon, namely centre-back Michael Keane.
The 24-year-old made the move to Merseyside during the summer after impressing for Burnley last season, yet hasn’t quite hit top form for the Toffees, and was particularly poor yesterday against the French side.
And several Everton fans took to Twitter to criticise the defender for his performance on Thursday…
Possibly the worst game that I have seen Keane play.. #efc #efclyo

I am starting to have my doubts about Michael Keane. Tonight he was poor again.

To be honest I’m not Williams’ biggest fan but I though he was decent tonight – Michael Keane on the other hand was shocking #efc

£30 million for Keane? Seen better Sunday league defending, from Williams . Change the manager before Arsenal and find some heart. #EFC
