Fans from across football in the Transfer Tavern have had their eyes firmly fixed to a sensational transfer rumour in recent weeks, which hasn’t earned a positive response from Catalan giants Barcelona.
Earlier this month astonishing claims suggested Lionel Messi is open to an exit from the Spanish side, which led to a number of our regulars drooling into their pints as they imagined the Argentine star in the Premier League.
However, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is far from happy with the rumours- branding them ’embarrassing’ when speaking to 8TV. Quotes cited by Goal read:
“People who say Messi is leaving Barcelona should be embarrassed. “Messi is recovering for the Madrid-Barcelona game. He is hoping to play El Clasico, but injuries have their process.”
“Leo and his father said they don’t imagine playing at another club. The relationship with the family is very good. We are not in the negotiation phase yet, when the time comes it will be presented. He has a contract for the next three seasons.”
Whilst this has shattered the dreams of many of our punters, no-one can say their surprised by these comments as the initial rumours were considered extremely far-fetched.
