Bayern Munich are considering triggering Nicolas Jackson’s €65m purchase option, even if the striker does not reach the 40 appearance benchmark this season. Jackson joined the German giants this summer on loan from Chelsea, and has a €65m option to make his deal permanent if he plays 40 matches in the Premier League and Champions League.
Despite former Bayern president Uli Hoeneß publicly stating that Jackson is unlikely to hit those numbers, German publication Bild has reported that Bayern is keen to sign the player permanently regardless. Jackson made his first start for Bayern on Saturday in their 4-1 win over Hoffenheim.
He combined well with Harry Kane but did not get on the scoresheet himself, with many believing he showed glimpses of promise. Jackson endured a topsy turvy time at Chelsea, with inconsistency and high profile misses marring his stay at the club.
Disciplinary issues also left a mark on his stint at the club, with the player drawing headlines for red card offences on more than one occasion. He fell out of favour with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca this summer following the signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, and began training alone or with the Chelsea second team as he searched for a new club towards the end of the window.
Jackson could be set for permanent Bayern switch

He has now settled into life in Germany, with Bild adding that a five-year contract has already been agreed with the player’s representatives. With or without the 40 appearances, should Bayern decide to trigger the buy option by mid-May other clubs wouldn’t be able to interfere.
Jackson still managed 24 Premier League goals in 65 appearances during his time at Chelsea, highlighting to some his potential to evolve into a top striker. He also scored in the UEFA Conference League final last season, as Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1.
Jackson’s agent Diomansy Kamara all but closed the door on a Chelsea return for the player, emphatically stating that his client will not play for the Blues again and admitting that the player’s relationship with manager Maresca has faltered.
