Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are gutted after watching one of the club’s most expensive transfer deals in history collapse.
Our regulars were excited to watch Lyon captain Nabil Fekir at Anfield after the clubs agreed on a £53m fee. The Frenchman had conducted interviews with the club’s TV channel before a medical scuppered the deal. Lyon now expect their skipper to remain at the club following the World Cup.
The punters in the Tavern were scratching their heads thinking of potential targets with Jurgen Klopp seeking a creative, attacking midfielder to complete the Liverpool midfield. Naturally, former Liverpool target Thomas Lemar was a name that sprung to the minds of many. Lemar seemed a perfect fit for Klopp’s 4-3-3 system but has now signed an agreement to move to Atletico Madrid.
Losing out on Fekir and Lemar is a big blow to Liverpool’s transfer plans. Instead, they should launch an audacious bid for Bayern Munich midfielder – Corentin Tolisso. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman started just 17 games in the Bundesliga last season. He scored ten goals and notched seven assists in all competitions.
Tolisso would be ideal for Klopp’s counter-attack pressing system. He is quick and strong with an eye for a pass. The 23-year-old is known for his long passing, averaging 3.5 long balls per game last season (WhoScored). If Liverpool added Tolisso alongside Naby Keita in the Liverpool midfield, their attackers would be licking their lips.
Liverpool fans, thoughts?
