Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hopefully of landing to seasoned Premier League players as Rafa Benitez looks set to raid his former club.
According to MailOnline, the Magpies are looking to bring Jon Flanagan and midfielder Lucas Leiva to St James’ Park from Liverpool.
It’s believed Jurgen Klopp is keen on Georginio Wijnaldum, but like Tottenham, the Reds are put off by the 26-year-old’s £25 million price tag.
Still, a move to Anfield remains on the cards because it’s believe the Geordies will consider a cash-plus-player offer for their Dutch international.
Now, it’s being reported that Benitez has his eye on both Flanagan and Leiva as potential players to be involved in the deal to take the former PSV ace to Merseyside.
As the Spanish manager looks to guide Newcastle straight back into the Premier League, he is embarking on an ambitious recruitment drive in order to so, one that has seen the likes of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle arrive on Tyneside already.
