Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the club to make a number of additions this summer as they look to remain competitive next season.
Rafa Benitez’s side managed an unlikely top-half finish last year and the Spaniard is keen to build on it, but will know he will need to make a number of additions for it to happen, although it remains to be seen if he will get the funds to make such deals happen, which could happen in the early part of the week.
The Magpies are thought to be desperate to add at least one striker this summer and according to reports in the Northern Echo, Salomon Rondon is thought to be high on their list of possible targets. The West Bromwich Albion striker is expected to leave the Hawthorns following their relegation and is not short of options. Indeed, Benitez himself is believed to be wanting an imminent update from Lee Charnley over the club’s transfer business.
Rondon is thought to be an attractive option as he has a release clause of just £16million, which is considered to be a low figure in this day and age.
Landlord’s Verdict
The Venezuelan striker would be a good addition to Newcastle this summer should they be able to spend the money required. Rondon has the experience of playing in the Premier League and should he get the support in the final third, he could become a prolific hitman for the Magpies, which the locals have been desperate for.
