Best of Football FanCast : Fabio Aurielo to go and Newcastle feel the pinch…

The Gob On Legs 16 October 2009, 17:30 3 minutes read

MaiconBerbatovAnother wonderful week in the world of Premier League football and once again, it is the big names at the big clubs that have drawn the attention of the writers on Football FanCast. Leon Richards makes a very interesting point this week in his article about the long term Anfield future of often injured Liverpool left back Fabio Aurielo, stating;

“It has not all been Aurelio’s fault as he has been plagued by injuries throughout his time, but as a Liverpool fan I am still uncertain as to what he brings to the table and whether he could in fact be a vital addition to the squad

“I mean we do see the odd flashes of brilliance, but then the next few games he goes missing.”

The big transfer news this week has been Robinho’s seeming desire to leave Manchester City to join Barcelona. The Brazilian has been opely, and shamelessly, courting the move for a while now and while many Manchester City fans would not be sorry to see the brilliant but inconsistent player leave, Football FanCast columnist Lee Harper argues that such a decision would be a huge one;

“There has been a huge amount of talk of late in the Press about his future and a rumour about a possible move to Barcelona has been mooted in January.

“If you believe the reports that Hughes is perhaps preparing to sacrifice the Brazilian in order to entice both Carles Puyol and Eric Abidal to Eastlands, then I believe that we will be making a terrible mistake.”

It is not just the top sides in the Premier League that have drawn attention this week on Football FanCast. Columnist Jim Hannah has revealed that Newcastle United’s current manager, Chris Hughton, will have to do with a ‘limited budget’ come January and as an ardent fan of the Toon Army, Mr Hannah is less than impressed;

“If the very prospect of Mike Ashley remaining at the helm for another year wasn’t painful enough, then the reports coming out in this morning’s papers that Chris Hughton will only have a shoestring budget at his disposal in the January window, in order to cement our push for a Premier League return, takes the absolute biscuit and only serve to highlight the sheer incompetence of this man.“

Strong opinions also from Jeff Manning this week upon Manchester United’s proposed £20m target Maicon. Mr Manning is of the opinion that the money that Manchester United have earmarked for the Inter Milan right back, may well be better spent elsewhere;

“Maicon is an excellent footballer and a part of me feels he could be an excellent addition to the United ranks, while another wonders if he is in fact, at £20m, a luxury we can do without.

“There seems to be this real belief in the media that we are struggling in the right back position at the football club; a view that I struggle to understand, especially when you have Neville, Brown, O’Shea and the extremely promising Rafael Da Silva…”
