The Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their club’s Twitter post. The club tweeted a picture of James Chester in training, with the caption “Has there been a more consistent defender in the league this season?” Fans have been having their say in response to the post as they look at the league’s best defenders.

James Chester has certainly played his part in a superb campaign for the Villa Park faithful this season. The defender has a 100% record of minutes played for the club in the Championship this season, not missing a single minute and scoring three goals in the process. Chester’s three goals came in three successive matches in March against Sunderland, Wolves and QPR as the club looked to be chasing Cardiff for an automatic promotion spot at the time.
The incredible consistency on show in Chester’s game has convinced Steve Bruce to hand him the captain’s armband on 12 occasions this season, most recently in the club’s last two fixtures against Leeds and Cardiff in successive 1-0 wins. Chester has partnered Chelsea legend and veteran defender John Terry for a lot of the season and the pair have gone down as one of the divisions most formidable duos at the back. Chester will be hoping he can continue performing as Villa aim for promotion via the playoffs this season.
