Liverpool, Juventus, Roma and Inter Milan are battling it out to sign FC Porto midfielder Fernando. The 20 year-old Brazilian midfielder has caught the eye of several major teams across Europe with his impressive performances in Porto’s midfield.

Liverpool are in search of a midfielder after their own Brazilian midfielder Lucas, was sidelined for 6 months with a cruciate knee ligament injury and they have been keeping tabs on Fernando with a view to making an offer for the Porto man.

But Liverpool face stiff competition from the three Italian sides who have all been scouting Fernando and are also interested in making a move for the Brazilian.

Fernando has been at Porto for the last four years having joined them from Brazilian club Vila Nova in 2007. Once Porto sold both Raul Meireles and Lucho Gonzalez, Fernando became a mainstay in their midfield and he has been impressive throughout. The midfielder was also an integral part of Andre Vilas-Boas’ treble winning Porto side of last season.

But FC Porto are not a team who sell their star players on the cheap and Fernando will be no different. In recent years Porto have sold Lucho Gonzalez for £18 million, Lisandro Lopez for £24 million and this season they sold their top scorer from last year, Radamel Falcao, for £35 million.

So Liverpool, Roma, Juventus and Inter Milan will have to cough up a large amount to try and tempt Porto into parting with their combative midfielder.
