Middlesborough may be in 2nd place at the moment, but – having only netted 19 times – their form in front of goal is one of the worst in the top half of the table, and should they want to make a successful push back into the Premier League, they’ll need to drastically improve.
In step Jordan Hugill, on loan from West Ham.
The forward, who hadn’t exactly been the most effective since signing, and perhaps even a little disappointing, contributed the only two goals in Middlesborough victory over a tough Wigan side on Saturday.
It’s definitely a good time for Hugill to find his feet as well. With Britt Assombalonga not enjoying his best run of form, an opportunity has opened up for the player to really stake his claim in the starting lineup.
Borough fans have been crying out for goals all season and if Hugill continues his run of form they might finally see some uncharacteristically entertaining football from Tony Pulis’ side.
Here are some of the best reactions to his performance…
That first half display from Hugill is exactly what Boro need from their centre-forward. A nuisance. Tireless running, a target throughout. And goals.

Won’t see much of Britt if he carries on like that. More a Pulis type striker.

Nice to get the win at last, those goals were a long time coming! Hugill played miles better today, deserved to get off the mark #UTB
