Brentford have rarely been afraid to cash in on their biggest assets, but this summer could be about changing that narrative.

Brentford Bid for El-Mala
According to reports from Bild in Germany, Brentford have submitted a package worth around €50 million (£43m) for highly-rated FC Köln winger Said El Mala.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in German football after an outstanding breakthrough campaign, attracting attention from several clubs across Europe.
El Mala’s explosive style, direct running and attacking flair have earned widespread praise, with his own head coach, Lukas Kwasniok, describing him as a “street footballer with God-given talent” — a view shared by many inside the game.
The proposed deal would represent a record sale for Köln, highlighting just how highly Brentford rate the teenager. However, completing the transfer may not be straightforward.
While the Bundesliga side were reportedly prepared to accept Brentford’s offer, Sky Sports claim El Mala and his family have informed the Premier League club that he does not currently wish to make the move.
The report adds that there was never a full agreement between player and club, leaving his future uncertain despite Brentford’s substantial bid.
For now, the winger’s next destination remains up in the air. But Brentford’s willingness to commit such a significant fee underlines their intent ahead of the new season, even if they may now need to convince El Mala himself before any deal can progress.
